About Neat Acoustics

From our base in England, Neat Acoustics has spent more than three decades creating loudspeakers that speak directly to the heart of music. Founded by Bob Surgeoner, the company began with a simple but enduring idea: that musical engagement matters more than technical showmanship.

Our first design, the Neat Petite, appeared in 1989 and quickly earned a reputation for delivering a big, lifelike sound from a remarkably compact enclosure. It set the direction for everything that followed. Designs shaped by listening, guided by real instruments, and refined through experience rather than theory alone.

Bob’s background as a musician continues to influence the character of every Neat loudspeaker. There is a natural sense of timing, flow and expression that runs through the range. Each product is developed with care in England, where engineering and craftsmanship come together in service of the music.

Today, that same philosophy remains at the centre of what we do. We continue to refine and evolve our designs, always with the aim of bringing listeners closer to the performance, in real rooms and real homes.

A word from our founder

I’m Bob Surgeoner, founder of Neat Acoustics. The company began life in 1989 as a small hi-fi shop in the North East of England. During those early years, I became fascinated by how a compact loudspeaker could produce a sound far larger and more lifelike than its size suggested. That curiosity led to the creation of the Neat Petite — a small loudspeaker with a surprisingly big voice. As a performing and recording musician for more than twenty years, I had a clear sense of how instruments should sound — both acoustic and electronic, live and in the studio. My aim was to build loudspeakers that captured not only accuracy, but also the emotion and intent behind the performance. The Petite went into full production in 1991 and quickly found success. By 1993, Neat had become a full-time loudspeaker manufacturer. Many designs have followed since, each with its own character, but all guided by the same simple principle: to reveal the true essence of music.

Our Philosophy

At Neat, every loudspeaker begins and ends with listening. It has been this way since 1989, when our first design, the Petite, established a reputation for delivering a surprisingly large, natural sound from a compact enclosure. That same philosophy continues to guide us today. Measurements inform the process, but the final judgement is always made by ear.

Each design is crafted, tuned and refined until it reveals the full character, emotion and space within real music. The aim is simple: for the loudspeaker to disappear, leaving only the performance.

Yet while they disappear sonically, they remain as objects of quiet presence in the room. Proportions, materials and finishes are considered with the same care as the sound, so that each loudspeaker feels as good to live with as it does to listen to.

Built by hand in England, tuned by musicians and shaped by decades of experience, every Neat loudspeaker is made to give many years of musical enjoyment.
